Introduction

Exhibition Art & Technology brought me on for the final year of a 4-year project to design the permanent exhibition at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's new BLDG 92 museum. I was tasked with creating a consistent visual style which would consolidate the disparate elements of the exhibition which had accumulated through years of planning, and extrapolate upon that system to create new entirely new exhibits, along with new graphical systems like museum wayfinding

Wayfinding

Wayfinding signs had to be created for the museum's elevator and 2 stairwells, and it provided me an opportunity to create a completely original set of designs for the exhibition. I referenced the museum's visual motif of blue panels with gray highlights, but modified it by using Breuer Condensed (the museum's display font) exclusively, and using a slightly darker orange, as opposed to the standard yellow used in the exhibitions, to give more dramatic contrast.

Conclusion

This project was a big learning experience for me, both in terms of refining my working process to be more communicative, and my understanding of a designer's role within a large team of specialists.
