Exhibition Art & Technology brought me on for the final year of a 4-year project, to design the permanent exhibition at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's new BLDG 92 museum. I was tasked with creating a consistent visual style which would consolidate the disparate elements of the exhibition that had accumulated through years of planning. I also had to extrapolate upon that system to create new exhibits, and completely new graphical systems like museum wayfinding.
Fresh Concentrate is a small, upstart multicultural design firm in Midtown Manhattan, where I worked on a variety of projects as an intern. Due to the small design team, I was responsible for a variety of roles on a number of projects, such as initial brainstorming, drawing vectors via Adobe Illustrator, incorporating client feedback, or generating site layouts.
The Cooper Union School of Art curriculum emphasizes freedom and variety, doing away with specific majors in favor of encouraging students to pursue a wide range of disciplines, and I primarily focused on Painting and Graphic Design. From Painting I learned the importance of an effective work process, the value of context and history, and the process of expanding small interactions into expansive visual structures. From Graphic Design, I learned about the interaction of form and content, the power of typography, and the cumulative value of collaboration.
